Fundraising Requirements

In order to participate in the Courage in Motion bike ride, each cyclist undertakes to raise a minimum of $2,500 Canadian or U.S. for which tax receipts will be issued. Any shortfall in the fundraising requirement must be contributed by the cyclist in order to participate in the event. Cyclists who bring in a single corporate sponsor at the $2,500 level are required to raise an additional $1,000 beyond the corporate sponsorship. In addition to the fundraising component, each cyclist must pay a registration fee of $450 prior to May 31st ($550 after June 1st). The fee for volunteers is $900. Fees must be paid at the time of registration.  Registration will not be complete until the registration fee is paid and your medical clearance form is received.

Fundraising:

Donations can be made in the following three ways:

  • Donors may contribute online by credit card by visiting Canada Helps for Canadian donations or Charity Box for U.S. donations. In your fundraising letter, be sure to clearly highlight that Canada Helps should be used for Canadian donations and that Charity Box should be used for U.S. donations. See "Fundraising Tools for Online Donations" below for instructions regarding online donations.
  • Donors can give you their credit card information and you can provide it to Beit Halochem directly if they prefer not to provide their credit card information online.  Be sure to obtain the donor’s name, full mailing address, credit card number and the security code from their credit card. Beit Halochem accepts VISA and Master Card only.
  • Donations can also be made by cheque payable to "Beit Halochem Canada." Cheques in Canadian and U.S. funds should be mailed to the Canadian office.  Be sure to obtain the donor’s full name and mailing address and ask the donor to note on the check that the donation is on your behalf by writing your name on the check.

Cash donations are acceptable; however, it is not advisable to mail cash. Do not replace cash with your personal cheque as tax receipts can only be issued to the person whose name is on the cheque.   You can obtain a money order from the bank with any cash and put the donor's name on the money order as the sender.  You may incur a service charge for money orders. The only instance in which there is a difference in how the donation is made is when donations are being made online.  All other donations are processed through the Canadian office, and a country-appropriate tax receipt will be issued.  U.S. donations will not be converted to Canadian funds.

Use the tally sheet to keep track of your offline donations. (Download tally sheet now.) Submit your offline donations together with the completed tally sheet to Beit Halochem Canada.

Please be aware that donations which are not made online will not appear on your Canada Helps Giving Page.  You will be provided with an update of offline donations every two weeks. If you would like to use our sample fundraising letter, please click here to download.

Fundraising Tools for Online Donations:

For cyclists who would like to fundraise online, Beit Halochem is using the services of Canada Helps in Canada and Charity Box in the U.S.  Each of these websites allows donors to contribute directly to Beit Halochem in the name of an individual cyclist.  Online tax receipts are issued immediately following the donation.  It is very important that donors select the proper website to make their donation as Canada Helps issues tax receipts valid for use in Canada only, and Charity Box issues receipts valid only in the United States.

We have chosen to use the services of these organizations because they provide the necessary infrastructure at the lowest cost, thereby, maximizing the percentage of each dollar donated directly to Beit Halochem for use in rehabilitation
  •  Canadian Donations – Canada Helps

On the Canada Helpswebsite, you can create your own personal webpage that donors may visit to make a contribution directly to Beit Halochem in your name. Click on “How to Give” on the Canada Helps homepage and select “Create a Giving Page.”  (Or, link to "Create a Giving Page" now.) It is very simple to create a Giving Page and only takes a few minutes.  Once you have created your Giving Page, a link directly to your page will be created.  You should include this link in your fundraising letter so donors can easily donate directly to you.

Beit Halochem is registered with Canada Helps.  In the process of creating your Giving Page, you will be asked to provide the name of the charity to which you want donations directed.  Be sure to type in Beit Halochem Canada/Aid to Disabled Veterans of Israel (Canada) to have donations made in your honour directed to Beit Halochem.  A drop-down box following the request for the charity name will ask for the area of interest that the charity services.  Select “health” and “rehabilitation” in the drop-down box.

Once you have completed the setup of your Giving Page, you will receive an email from Canada Helps confirming the set-up, user ID and password that you have selected.  Ensure that you receive the confirmation email so that you know your Giving Page is functioning properly.
  • U.S. Donations – Charity Box

On the Charity Box website, it is not possible to set up a personal donation page.  Include this link to Charity Box in your fundraising letter in order to direct donors to the Beit Halochem donation section:
https://www.charitybox.com/fidv/Default.asp? .

When donors go to the Beit Halochem section of the Charity Box site, they will be asked for their contact information and donation amount.  As well, there is a box for additional information.  The donor must put your name and the Courage in Motion event in the box to indicate their donation is for this event on your behalf.  Please be sure to clearly indicate to your donors that it is crucial that they complete the “special instructions” box on the Charity Box donation page so that their donation is attributed to you.

  • Donations from the United Kingdom

This section will be updated shortly with a facility for online donations from the U.K.

Good luck with your fundraising efforts!  We look forward to seeing you in Israel, where you will meet and cycle with the injured heroes whose rehabilitation will be enhanced by the funds you raise.
